History

The Fernández Hidalgo family inherited their passion for olive oil from their grandparents, who in the post-war period began buying leftover olives and exchanging the oil obtained for flour and wine on the black market.

Key chronological milestones

1952

Manuel Fernández Durán, following in his parents’ tradition, founded the “Agrolea” Cooperative together with other partners in La Puerta de Segura (Jaén).

1960s

He was a pioneer in retail olive oil sales, opening several shops in Albacete.

1983

He acquired part of the shareholding of the “La Moderna” olive mill in La Puerta de Segura.

1987

He acquired full ownership of the olive mill.

1989

The olive mill was renovated, doubling production capacity.

1993

OLEOFER S.L. was established, bringing the children into the company.

2000

The facilities were moved to the olive mill’s current location.

2005

Expansion and modernization of the production lines.

2009

Acquisition of the Los Barrancos estate, completing the circle in a process that controls the entire production of extra virgin olive oil—from harvesting to bottling and subsequent marketing and export.

2012

Launch of an organic milling line and the Tierras de Tavara brand, with three business lines: olive oil, gourmet olives, and organic products.

2014

The first olive mill in the Sierra de Segura specialized in oleotourism.

2019

Expansion of the mill and the bottling line.

2022

Launch of a self-consumption milling service for local farmers.
